First Aid Kits

Although we typically don't intend to get sick or injured, first aid is something that should be included in your survival kits. It doesn't have to be extravagant, but a simple first aid kit can be a true life saver. Basic items that should be included are:
  • absorbent compress dressings
  • antibiotic ointment
  • hydro-cortisone ointment
  • pain reliever
  • tweezers
  • Band aids
  • razor blade
  • sewing kit
  • alcohol wipes
This is not an all inclusive list, but instead a basic foundation for your first aid kit. Everyone has different needs, so you will need to customize your kit to fit your specific needs. Keep in mind any need for prescription medication, or medical needs that may be specific to your situation. If you are in a group then the amount of any given item in your kit should be adjusted to meet the needs of your group. It doesn't hurt to have multiple kits, just in case the one that you are carrying gets lost or stolen.

I am no first aid expert, but the topic should be considered and planned for accordingly. To help you with your research, I have included a link to what I consider to be a very informative article on the topic. It wouldn't hurt to take some first aid classes to be more prepared for an emergency situation. Usually the classes are cheap/free, and they are readily available through your local Red Cross, or some other venue.  Click the link below to learn more about first aid kits and why they should be included in all survival kits.
